Olaf Storbeck

Frankfurt correspondent

Olaf Storbeck is the FT's Frankfurt banking correspondent. Besides Germany's financial sector, he is covering the retail industry and - following a lot of work on the political and financial repercussions of the Wirecard fraud - has a focus on white collar crime and whistleblowing.

Before joining the FT in 2017, he worked at a London-based columnist at Reuters Breakingviews for five years and was named Reuters Journalist of the year in 2015 in the commentary category for his opinion pieces about the Volkswagen diesel scandal. A German citizen, he started his career at Germany's business and financial daily Handelsblatt after graduating from the Cologne School of Journalism and studying Economics at the University of Cologne.

Olaf was part of the teams which in 2020 won two Loeb Awards ('Breaking News’ and 'investigative') and the Press Gazette British Journalism Award' in the 'Best Business Journalism category.
